All students who plan to take a Math course numbered 1500 or below should take the Math Placement Test, even if you have satisfied the prerequisites through transfer credit, dual credit, AP or IB credit. Your Math Placement Test score is an indication of your preparedness for the math course you wish to take. If your score does not satisfy the prerequisite for the course you plan to take, you are advised to retake a lower-level math course, or remediate and review materials from your prior course.

Students with AP Credit

Students receiving Advanced Placement (AP) Credit will be placed as follows:

  • AP Calculus BC Exam score of 3 or higher:
    • Receive credit for Math 1160, Math 1500, and Math 1700 (eligible to take Math 2300)
    • Students who score a 3 on the AP Calculus BC exam are advised to take Math 1700 if they plan to eventually take Math 2300.
  • AP Calculus AB Exam score (or AB Subscore from BC Exam) of 3 or higher:
    • Receive credit for Math 1160, and Math 1500 (eligible to take Math 1700)

  • Students may not receive more than 5 hours of credit from Math 1100, 1140, and 1160. If a student already has credit for Math 1100, he/she will receive credit for Math 1140 instead of Math 1160.
