Curriculum: Biography
Identify: Chartese Darnel Jones
Born in Indianola, Mississippi of the United States of America, but reared in Belzoni, Mississippi of the United States of America, I am Chartese Darnel Jones.
My time as a child was not my best years. I felt the worst. Some of the younger children around me would always speak the phrase, “I cannot wait until I am eighteen”. This was my only hope. Get to the age of eighteen. There was only one problem. I had to get there with no help. I did not say support. I said help. This meant, I learned the ways of the world. To elaborate on how nasty some people in the world is, is easy, yet the education curve that is obtained from poverty to a tenure track position at a leading research institution in the United States of America is the “American Dream”.
When I was sixteen years old, I got the opportunity to attend a math summer camp at Mississippi Valley State University, and this experience changed my life. No one knew me. After finishing the summer program, I went back to my high school with a different attitude and a different mindset. I did not know I wanted to study mathematics.
It was not until I enrolled in college and began taking math courses that I learned that this is what I really wanted to pursue as a career. Thereafter, I networked to meet more professors who not only help change my life educationally, but also socially. These professors taught me how to get out and work for what I want and strive to be better academically.
I assume many could think that these are things one should have learned well before college, I learned that everyone will grow or blossom at different rates. However, when an individual learns his/her/their full potential, “stand back world”.
As I continue to grow and learn more about myself, I unlock the skills it takes to think a little harder and gain a better understanding in general. With this knowledge, I will continue to unlock the secrets that will help shape and mold my skills in life, as well as in mathematics. With these skills, I will be able to help others tap into their full potential to strive for a better tomorrow.
In addition, I plan to help individuals understand how important they are to the world. I want to learn as much as possible, so when my work is done, I will have touched enough hearts and souls that have the skills and abilities to replace me.
